The Department of Health has released information explaining what the people in each Australian State and Territory need to do if they test positive for COVID-19.

Opening its advice the Department said people who returned a positive test result, wherever they were, must isolate straight away.

“This means staying at home and not having any family or friends come over to visit,” the Department said.

“If you live with other people, they will also need to isolate at home,” it said.

“Try to keep away from the people you live with as much as you can, to help avoid spreading the virus to them if they do not have it.”

The Department said people could order their groceries and medicine online or ask family and friends who did not live with them to deliver supplies to their door.

It said people who tested positive using a rapid antigen test (RAT) at home needed to tell their State or Territory Health Department so it could keep track of who had COVID-19 and who might need help.

It said anyone who was positive with COVID must also contact the people they had seen in the couple of days before testing positive.

“Finally, make sure you look after yourself,” it said.

“Get plenty of rest, drink lots of water and eat well.”

The Department said most people who were fully vaccinated experienced mild symptoms and could look after themselves at home.

It said people who were worried about their symptoms should call the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080 or visit their healthcare worker.

“Only call Triple Zero (000) for emergencies, like if you’re having trouble breathing or have chest pain,” the Department said.
