The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has launched its Online Water Account platform to make information on the availability of water and its use more publicly accessible.
The Department said that through the platform people could explore water in the river basin, water corporation or town of their choice using an interactive map.
“A key action of Water for Victoria is to improve public reporting on water availability and use including making the information more publicly accessible and user-friendly,” the Department said.
“The transformation of the Victorian Water Accounts (VWA) began with the Victorian Water Accounts Highlights (howmuch.water.vic.gov.au), a web-based data visualisation,” it said.
“The Online Water Accounts is the next step, with an initial focus on surface water basin accounts.”
“The long-term vision of the data visualisations is to refine and expand based on user expectations and feedback.”
The Department said surface water and distribution system accounts were available to explore on the Online Water Accounts site and in time the site would be expanded to include groundwater and entitlement reporting.
DELWP asked people to contact its water reporting team via email with any feedback on the platform.
