The Department of Defence (DoD) has opened its first Australian Defence Export Office — a key initiative of its Defence Export Strategy — in Canberra.
Officiating at the opening, the Minister for Defence Industry, Christopher Pyne said the Australian Defence Export Office would provide a focal point for whole-of-Government delivery of the systematic approach and initiatives set out in the Strategy.
He described it as a “critical step in achieving the export success we need to support and develop the Australian Defence industry of tomorrow”.
“We have a clear strategic vision for a sovereign Australian Defence industry that underpins our Defence capability,” Mr Pyne said.
He said a Defence industry that was sustainable and internationally competitive was crucial to this vision.
“I look forward to seeing the Australian Defence industry achieving greater export success, supported by the Australian Defence Export Office,” Mr Pyne said.
The DoD said the Australian Defence Export Office would deliver a range of initiatives to assist and support the Australian Defence industry.
“This will include producing market intelligence, partnering with industry in multi-year campaigns, and leading the Australian Military Sales and Team Defence Australia initiatives,” the DoD said.
It said the Office would deliver the Team Defence Australia program from 1 July, with the program providing Australian companies with international exposure through trade shows and targeted trade missions.
