Deadbeat Effervescent are an Irish band that I’ve just come across on Bandcamp.

They play catchy indie/pop with a delightful Irish lilt and tongue-in-cheek, and often zany, sense of humour evidenced in their lyrics.

They describe their music as ‘mystical pop music from Sir Bobby Jukebox & friends’ and that title captures some sense of the overall feeling of the disc.

Sir Bobby Jukebox writes the songs, plays bass, keys, sings and produces. He also writes the string, brass, and steelpan arrangements.

His friends are Tim Falcon Prime who plays drums and percussion, sings, and does the engineering; and Mark Chester who plays the guitars.

This twelve-track album takes a light-hearted look at life through a series of decidedly quirky songs that act as an antidote to many of the trials and tribulations that we’ve all been subjected to over the last couple of years.

It could easily find a home in the children’s music section of your local record store and I’m sure that kids would enjoy it as much as the adults, but it really is aimed at a more mature audience.

The production values suggest a light hand at the tiller, which is in keeping with the light and airy, fun, approach the band has adopted.

The track titles will give you some idea of the content: Waterfight, Save The Circus, Spaceman’s Gold, Telly Worldwide, The Trundling Path, Walk The Plank, a Bugle Call etc.

I found the album to be a nice change from the usual, very serious (and often pretentious) fare I receive.

There’s a little bit of Bonzo Dog Doo Dah band in No Monster Club and I like it.
