The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) has announced that seven data specialists are to be given three-month fellowship placements with the Agency to help develop solutions to data-related problems and improve Government services.
The announcement represents DTA’s second round of placements under its Data Fellowship Program.
In a statement, the DTA said the fellowships had been awarded to high-performing data specialists in the Australian Public Service.
“During their placements they will work with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation’s data-innovation group, Data61, during which they will develop solutions for data-related problems or opportunities,” the Agency said
“The fellowships give Australian Public Service staff the chance to step outside their day jobs and create prototypes that improve or completely redesign our approach to real-life problems.”
It said the participants came from a variety of Government Agencies and would work on various projects between now and mid-October.
The seven new data fellows and the projects they’re working on between now and mid-October this year are:
Todd Campbell of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority: Checking financial condition reports;
Rakhesh Devadas (pictured) from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences: Automating land-use delineation;
Patrick Drake-Brockman from the Digital Transformation Agency: Analysing government buying patterns;
Gabriella Duddy of the Clean Energy Regulator: Detecting non-compliance in regulatory schemes;
Dipangkar Kundu from the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources: Targeting biosecurity risks at airports;
Daniel Merkas (Australian Bureau of Statistics):Improving survey accuracy; and
Jack Xu (Department of Human Services): Simulation model for call-centre activities
