The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has released its annual Cyber Threat Report 2020-21 — the second in the series.
The ACSC said the Report was produced in collaboration with the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
It said the Report contained an overview of the key cyber threats affecting Australia, providing crucial advice on how all individuals and organisations could help protect themselves online.
Head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre, Abigail Bradshaw said malicious cyber actors were actively targeting Australians at all levels.
“Every Australian individual, business and organisation needs to be aware of the evolving cyber-threat environment and take the necessary steps to defend against these threats,” Ms Bradshaw said.
“We have received more than 67,500 cyber-crime reports, or around one every eight minutes, which is an indication of how prevalent cyber threats and cyber criminals are.”
She encouraged everyone to read the Report to understand the cyber threats and learn how to protect themselves, their families and businesses online.
“Every cyber-crime report helps not only the victim, but also goes to help the ACSC develop knowledge of the cyber-threat picture and enables the ACSC to produce the best possible advice for all Australians,” Ms Bradshaw said.
