A grants program to encourage new projects and activities to improve Canberra’s city centre has been launched by the City Renewal Authority (CRA).
The $150,000 program is open for applications, with a closing date of 28 May.
Chief Executive of the CRA, Malcolm Snow said activities would need to take place within the city centre between 1 July and 31 December.
“We’re asking people to be innovative and creative with their proposals, but it is important that they show how their proposal will positively impact the city centre,” Mr Snow said.
“Successful projects will contribute to a lively city centre and encourage social exchange and diversity in the public realm.”
He said the CRA had received an “amazing variety” of applicants in the last round and he was looking forward to seeing what exciting and interesting proposals came forward this time.
“We want successful projects to contribute to a vibrant city,” Mr Snow said.
“They should drive economic activity for existing businesses in the city centre and build capacity within the local community.”
He said grants are available for a variety of purposes, including events and activations, arts activities, short-term installations, marketing and promotion, and research and development.
Mr Snow said the timing and location of activations would be considered as part of the assessment process to ensure they supported a year-round program of events and activations across the city centre.
He said in support of this a separate process would begin in September for grant applications for activities in 2019.
