The Minister for Women, Yvette Berry, has called for nominations to the ACT Ministerial Advisory Council on Women for 2019-2020.

Ms Berry said the Council was an independent voice, able to raise and debate issues that matter to women in the ACT.

She said it played a key role advising the Government on issues of importance to women in the ACT, and assisted with work to improve the status of women in the community.

“Women across varied age groups, diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of community and occupational expertise make up the Council and their work reflects the objectives of the ACT Women’s Plan,” Ms Berry said.

“The Council also monitors the progress of achievements towards these objectives through consultation with women in the community and relevant organisations.”

She said members of the Council were selected for their expertise and experience in issues affecting women and nominees should have a sound knowledge of the interests and concerns of ACT women, and an ability to consult and represent on a wide range of issues.

“Nominations are invited from individuals and representatives of women’s organisations and peak bodies in the ACT who are able to demonstrate commitment to the advancement of women,” the Minister said.

Nominations close on 19 October and application packages could be obtained from the ACT Office for Women at this PS News link.
