Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) has recorded its largest-ever graduation in Rockhampton, with 37 new custodial officers joining the ranks at the Capricornia Correctional Centre.

Deputy Commissioner of QCS, James Koulouris (pictured) welcomed the graduates saying working for QCS was deeply meaningful.

“We transform lives, and communities, every single day,” Deputy Commissioner Koulouris said.

“I have the utmost respect for all our officers working in the correctional system,” he said.

“They are performing an important and challenging public service, and I welcome these new officers to the QCS family.”

MP for Keppel, Brittany Lauga also welcomed the new officers saying they had all undergone an intensive specialist program that gave them the skills to excel in their field.

“The officers at Capricornia Correctional Centre do a fantastic job of keeping us safe, while working in a challenging and fast-paced environment,” Ms Lauga said.

“It’s because of them that Queensland is a safer place.”

MP for Rockhampton, Barry O’Rourke said QCS was undertaking a massive recruitment drive for regional Queensland.

“With the expansion of the Centre coming online this year, QCS is recruiting more than 200 new staff,” Mr O’Rourke said.
