The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation has announced that community information sessions on the Containers for Change program are to begin next week.

The Department said Western Australia Return Recycle Renew Ltd (WARRRL) is to run the sessions about different ways interested organisations, including local residents, community groups and businesses, could participate.

“The sessions will detail how Containers for Change will work, how to get involved and how to fundraise through the scheme,” the Department said.

“The sessions will answer questions such as what containers will be eligible for the 10c refund; where containers can be taken to receive a refund; and how community groups can use Containers for Change as a way to fundraise.”

The Department said refund points would operate from Kalumburu in the north to Albany in the south, giving more than 99 per cent of Western Australians access to the scheme.

Minister for the Environment, Stephen Dawson said Western Australians were enthusiastic about the scheme, and the community information sessions were an opportunity for everyone to engage with the scheme co-ordinator and find out how they could get involved.

Containers for Change will bring with it constructive outcomes such as jobs, funding streams for community groups, ways to improve recycling and a pathway to a cleaner and more sustainable environment,” Mr Dawson said.

“Importantly, Containers for Change will also provide a new way for community groups, schools, sports clubs and charities to fundraise.”

The Containers for Change launch has been postponed due to the impact of COVID-19 and will now take place on 1 October.

The dates for local community information sessions can be accessed on the Eventbrite website at this PS News link.
