There have been a number of good singles drop into my lap recently and young Australian singer/songwriter Cloe Styler’s Consider Me Gone is one of them.
It’s the first single lifted from her upcoming debut album and if the single is anything to go by then the album should be worth looking out for.
Consider Me Gone was written by Cloe, recorded at The Grove Studios and produced by Andy Mak (Vera Blue, Winterbourne), who also played bass and keys on the track.
He assembled a classy group of musicians to lay down a solid foundation with Harry Day from Middle Kids on drums and Sam Telford from Vera Blue on guitars.
The track was mastered by the US dream-team of Greg Calbi and Steven Fallone (Tame Impala, Taylor Swift) so some money has been thrown at the production and the quality of the track deserves it.
It’s a song written from the perspective of someone who has reached the point in a relationship of finally letting go.
There is no anger or regret, just relief at finally being able to move on.
Consider Me Gone is a perfect blend of ‘80s inspired indie-pop that is propelled forward by an insistent and driving bass line and strong drum beat.
Cloe comments that “the whole team worked so well together to bring this song to life in a way I could never have imagined. It’s a perfect blend of every influence of mine, from early 2000s punk pop to 80s pop to a more contemporary indie pop.”
The accompanying video clip was shot in-between lockdowns on the Gold Coast by an all-female production team led by director Madeline Jones.
It’s good to hear a track from a young female artist that has some real strength behind it.
Although the artwork is saccharine-sweet the music is muscular and the track is definitely a standout amongst the recent singles I’ve received.
