A collaboration between the State Library of Western Australia and Transperth is introducing more public transport commuters to thousands of free books, magazines, newspapers and movies.
The initiative aims to get more people signed up to enjoy the range of entertaining free resources the State Library has to offer.
Minister for Transport, Rita Saffioti said the ability to enjoy a book while commuting was one of the best things about opting to catch public transport rather than driving.
“Many Perth commuters already pull out their paperback, e-book or audiobook as soon as they get on the bus or train, and we hope this brilliant new initiative will invite more passengers to do the same,” Ms Saffioti said.
“We live busy lives and the ability to relax for a few minutes while somebody else drives us to and from work is something we should all be enjoying.”
She was supported by the Minister for Culture and the Arts, David Templeman who described it as a “fantastic initiative that helps bring the magic of reading to thousands of people every day”.
“Free membership with the State Library of WA ensures the wonderful material that is available at the library is accessible by all,” Mr Templeman said.
