The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate has released its latest draft management plan for the Canberra Nature Park for community consultation.
Minister for the Environment, Mick Gentleman, welcomed the plan saying it outlined the Government’s values and goals for reserves as more people visit them each year.
“We’re inviting Canberrans to have their say on the management of Canberra’s fantastic nature reserves,” Mr Gentleman said.
“We want to hear park users’ views to help develop a plan that meets community expectations as well as conservation needs,” he said.
“Each reserve also has its own ‘plan on a page’ so you can have a say on your favourite local park.”
Mr Gentleman said Canberra’s reserves contributed to health and wellbeing in the ACT by providing a destination for morning runs, dog walking and “generally connecting with nature.”
He said the draft plan outlined the kinds of activities that would be allowed in each reserve.
“The reserves also play a vital role conserving the natural environment through protecting endangered woodlands, grasslands and animals and providing important wildlife corridors through the ACT and into NSW,” he said.
“The Canberra Nature Park belongs to Canberrans and we want the final plan to deliver what the community wants while continuing to conserve our native species.”
Consultation is open until 16 December and the 233-page draft plan can be accessed at this PS News link.
