The Attorney General’s Department is calling for feedback on a proposed new framework to simplify the property provisions in the Family Law Act 1975.
The Department said it had produced a consultation paper which discussed the planned reforms that emerged from the Australian Law Reform Commission’s (ALRC) report into the Family Law for the Future.
“The ALRC made a range of recommendations for reform of the property regime, including that the Act be amended to specify the steps that a court will take when considering property orders,” the Department said.
“The ALRC also recommended simplifying the list of matters that a court may take into account,” it said.
“In taking forward reform of the family law property regime, we are interested to hear from family law practitioners and experts, users of the family law system and the wider community.”
The Department said it would receive submissions on its Consultation Paper until 9 July.
The submissions would be published on its website as they were received and processed, unless requested otherwise.
The Department’s 17-page Consultation Paper, including information on how to have a say, can be accessed at this PS News link.
