Departments and Agencies will soon be able to play a greater role in managing their workers’ compensation claims under new service options being introduced by Comcare.
The new claims service scheme will apply to a number of the Agencies in the Comcare scheme, specifically non-corporate Commonwealth entities.
Comcare said the initiative follows a Government announcement foreshadowing the move in September 2017.
In that announcement the then Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service, Senator Michaelia Cash said Departments and Agencies would be given the option of utilising private sector insurers for their workers’ compensation claims management.
Comcare said that to give effect to the model in which an Agency delegate is supported by a third-party claims management provider, it went to market in late April 2018 to procure service providers to deliver the claims management services.
In September 2018 it announced Allianz Australia and Gallagher Bassett would be the two service providers.
It has now announced a contract with Employers Mutual Limited (EML) to act as a reserve service provider for the provision of claims management services to Commonwealth entities.
“EML currently provide claims management services across a range of jurisdictions and clients,” Comcare said.
“The new service options continue Comcare’s commitment to improving performance and working with Agencies to ensure the most efficient and effective workers’ compensation scheme for the Australian Public Service,” the Agency said.
