The Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy’s Customer and Digital Group has announced that the pilot ‘Closed Data’ portal was now available to all Queensland Government agencies.
The Group said the new portal was secure, accessible only by Queensland Government employees and ready to collect and store data unsuitable for public release but which may be of use within or between Government Departments.
It said that by cataloguing metadata, agency data could easily be found and identified for possible application in other contexts.
The Group identified a data catalogue and has set out who the portal is for.
“Data catalogues play a key role in an organisation’s understanding of their data holdings, and how they can be made available to help enhance service delivery, assess performance and improve decision making,” the Group said.
“As more data is added by a variety of agencies, the Closed Data Portal will provide a secure metadata catalogue of Queensland Government data assets.”
It said the pilot portal would be most valuable to data custodians, data owners, managers, analysts and anyone conducting research.
“As part of the portal’s pilot phase, all agencies are encouraged to request access and begin cataloguing their data holdings,” the Group said.
“The Closed Data Portal provides a secure, easy-to-use publishing interface that enables the discoverability, usability and regular sharing of previously inaccessible metadata.”
It said agencies can request access to the portal by contacting ForGovernment where they could also learn about the publishing process.
