The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate has launched an online quiz for members of the community to test their preparedness for extreme weather events.

Announcing the quiz, Executive Director, Climate Change and Sustainability at the Directorate, Gene McGlynn said that since summer had arrived the Climate Ready quiz represented a valuable online resource for people to self-assess their readiness and be more prepared for the effects of climate change.

“As an incentive to complete the four Climate Ready quizzes, Canberrans can enter into the draw for a chance to win $1,000,” Mr McGlynn said.

He said the free web tool was the first of its kind for the ACT Government.

“On completion of undertaking four short quizzes, Canberrans will receive an instant Climate Ready score, which determines how prepared they are in the event of a bushfire, drought, severe storm or heatwave,” Mr McGlynn said.

“With the convenience of helpful online tips and advice, the web tool provides families and individuals with actions they can act on right away, such as completing a Bushfire Survival Plan or clearing gutters of leaves and debris.”

He said that because weather in the Canberra region could became more extreme and unpredictable, the web tool focused on all aspects of people’s lives and offered advice on how to be better prepared in extreme weather events when at home and at work, using public transport or exercising.

The Climate Ready Quiz can be accessed at the Directorate’s website at this PS News link.
