The Department of Environment and Water has launched South Australia’s first-ever Industry Climate Change Conference, aimed at helping businesses reduce carbon emissions and remain profitable.
To be held in two days at the Adelaide Convention Centre on 20 and 21 April, the Department said it would provide an opportunity for business owners to meet industry leaders and experts and hear about the world’s best practices to influence and support their businesses to be climate smart.
The Department said attendees would learn about the latest trends and innovations to help the State government’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
Chairman of the Premier’s Climate Change Council, Martin Haese urged regional businesses to register and participate in the Industry Climate Change Conference.
“The conference will address the opportunities, challenges and priorities South Australia faces to remain a world leader in tackling climate change,” Mr Haese said.
“We are determined to develop a strong, net zero future, but we can only do this by working together with the businesses and industries that contribute to this great state,” he said.
The Department said keynote speaker and perennial campaigner for sustainable business practices, Jon Dee, is to share his insights on the challenges businesses’ faces in reducing their carbon footprint.
It said Mr Dee would outline a range of innovative and sustainable business practices and discuss the role of technology in supporting the transition towards a low-emissions economy.
The Conference will include sustainable agriculture expert Professor Richard Eckard who will speak about the effects of climate change on cropping, grazing, carbon farming and soil management.
Other speakers will include Premier Peter Malinauskas, Federal Minister for Climate and Energy Chris Bowen, Minister for Climate, Environment and Water Susan Close and environmental scientist Tim Jarvis.
