The City Renewal Authority’s ReNewYou program of free outdoor activity classes is to restart next week (2 November), after it was put on hold during the Territory’s lockdown.

Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Malcolm Snow said the ReNewYou program would kick off with Mindful Movement classes, to run from 2 November this year to 21 December next year every Tuesday at 7.30am in Glebe Park.

“In the Mindful Movement classes, participants will have the opportunity to stretch, de-stress and learn the basics of mindfulness meditation – all while enjoying the peaceful Glebe Park setting,” Mr Snow said.

He said in addition to being good for the health and wellbeing of participants, ReNewYou classes were also a great way to improve social connectedness in Canberra’s CBD.

“Low-cost and free activities are important ways to encourage participation in civic life and getting more people to visit the CBD,” Mr Snow said.

“There are many great public spaces in the City for people to use, and ReNewYou provides an extra incentive to get out and enjoy them,” he said.

“All classes will require a booking via Eventbrite and participants will need to bring a water bottle, yoga mat, a cushion if needed and wear comfortable clothing.”

Mr Snow said the ReNewYou Mindful Movement classes would be run by mindfulness expert at Simply Mindful, Megan Layton.

Mindful Movement sessions are great for newcomers and experienced meditators alike, and you can join us for any of the classes in the eight-week block,” Ms Layton said.

“We will begin each class with some gentle mindful movement including yoga and walking meditation to nourish and care for your body and settle your mind,” she said.

“The second half of the class will be a guided mindfulness meditation.”

Ms Layton said the eight-week course would move through a range of practices to help participants make a fresh start and move into their days from a place of greater awareness and clarity.
