The Territory’s economic development priorities have been updated to support recovery for the time COVID-19 is manageable.

Releasing a list of projects for when the time comes, Chief Minister, Andrew Barr said the update focused on short and medium-term development priorities.

CBR Switched On: ACT’s Economic Development Priorities 2022-2025 builds on our 2016 Statement of Ambition with its focus on making Canberra an even more attractive place to live, work, study, do business and invest in,” Mr Barr said.

“Since 2016, when the last economic development priorities plan was released, we have seen a 20 per cent growth in our economy,” he said.

“The number of businesses operating in the Territory has grown by around 5,300 and close to 23,000 additional jobs have been created.”

Mr Barr said the 2022-2025 priorities would support the wellbeing of Canberrans, while building a more diverse, resilient and prosperous economy.

“We have identified areas of strength in our city and economy that we will build on to support the creation of new jobs and more opportunities for Canberrans,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the updated plan would focus on developing a city of wellbeing and liveability; continuing efforts to be a city of environmental responsibility and action; and growing the Territory’s knowledge-based economy through innovation and responsible investment.

“A series of local projects have been identified to progress these objectives,” he said.

“These include transitioning to a net zero emissions economy, creating community hubs that provide better access to digital services, or providing venture capital to small business and social enterprise at the right time to encourage growth.”
