The Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate has kicked off its revised mowing program for the 2021-22 season, with crews mowing in suburbs, at roadside intersections, parks and sportsgrounds.
The Directorate said the Territory’s lockdown could cause some areas of its mowing program to fall behind schedule.
“We ask for the community’s understanding and patience as our crews work to mow priority areas across the City whilst also complying with current health directions,” the Directorate said.
“Once the lockdown period has ended, a staged approach will be implemented for crews and the mowing program will build to normal operations when more of the team return to work,” it said.
The Directorate said its annual mowing program normally ran from September to March with suburbs and areas of open space mowed every four weeks and arterial roads mowed every five weeks.
City Services said it expected grass to grow quickly as the weather warmed up and again asked for patience from the community if the predicted above-average rainfall for spring delayed mowers.
“Our mowers cannot mow if it is too wet,” it said.
The Directorate said people could check scheduled grass maintenance across Canberra on its Mowing Map, which displayed information about where crews had been and where they intended to mow in the coming weeks.
