The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) has been shortlisted for the Large Registered Training Organisation (RTO) of the Year, as part of the 2020 Australian Training Awards.

Chief Executive of CIT, Leanne Cover said the Australian Training Awards recognised and celebrated outstanding achievements in the vocational education and training (VET) sector across the country.

“It is a great honour for CIT to be shortlisted in the Large RTO category,” Ms Cover said

“We are so proud to showcase CIT and all the great work we do on a national stage,” she said.

“This achievement is particularly impressive this year, given the profound effect the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the VET sector.”

Ms Cover said Canberrans could be proud that CIT was recognised as being among the most outstanding VET institutions in Australia.

“CIT is ready to support our apprentices, trainees and graduates to meet the challenges and opportunities of this new world and are so proud of how our staff have brought CIT into students’ homes through a greater integration of technology,” she said.

Ms Cover said there were many innovative and collaborative projects that helped set CIT apart from other institutions around the country and contributed to its nomination.

“These projects, initiatives and training environments run the full gamut of education and training offered here at CIT, including art, media, trades, renewables, horticulture, community work, health and wellbeing, cyber security and hospitality,” she said.

The Awards are to be presented at a virtual ceremony on 20 November.
