The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) has marked this year’s Anzac Day as a significant milestone in its support for the Australian War Memorial’s Anzac Day activities.

2019 is the 10th year CIT Floristry students have volunteered to prepare button holes and floral arrangements for the Anzac and Remembrance Day services.

This year 15 students at CIT Bruce prepared around 500 buttonholes consisting of Flanders Poppies and fresh rosemary delivered to the War Memorial for veterans and VIPs attending Anzac Day services.

Students also prepared a floral arrangement displayed in the office of the Director of the Memorial, Brendan Nelson.

Chief Executive of CIT, Leanne Cover said CIT had many connections across Canberra, and the Australian War Memorial was one of the valued relationships.

“Our students appreciate the significance and sacrifice that was made by our Anzacs and are always happy to give their time and skill for this event during their mid-term break,” Ms Cover said.

“We are deeply ingrained in the fabric of Canberra and are proud to enhance significant initiatives and events such as Anzac Day.”

She said students learnt high-level technical floristry and design skills, and working on such a large-scale event gave them an ability to create a product at professional floristry standards.
