The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) has developed a new music extension course set to provide public college students with free access to a Certificate III or IV in Music Industry.
Minister for Education and Early Childhood Development, Yvette Berry said the CIT course would provide students with the opportunity to develop their skills through public music events and studio recording sessions.
“This new program will provide ACT public college students with access to enhanced music offerings as they complete their year 11 and 12 studies,” Ms Berry said.
“The course will strengthen music theory and composition knowledge, music performance ability in contemporary styles, and gain essential skills for working in the music industry,” she said.
“This program will see college students completing a Tertiary package graduating with a Senior Secondary Certificate, an ATAR, and a Certificate III or IV in Music Industry.”
Ms Berry said that on completion the vocational qualification could be a pathway to either the Diploma program at CIT or to Australian National University’s School of Music.
“Through the Future of Education Strategy, this Government is focussed on building strong communities for learning which are critical in providing students the very best chance for a bright future,” she said.
“This program empowers public school students to tread their own educational pathway in pursuit of their musical aspirations,” Ms Berry said.
