Canberra’s public school students are to benefit from the Territory’s nation-leading digital education program, now in its fourth year of providing equitable access to the tools children need for their education.
Minister for Education and Youth Affairs, Yvette Berry said more than 3,000 ACT public secondary students received their first Chromebooks last week to support their access to technology for learning in an increasingly digital world.
“The ACT Government has provided Chromebooks to every secondary public school student in Years 7 to 12 since February 2018,” Ms Berry said.
“In addition to supporting new Year Seven students, this year the Government will be refreshing almost 10,000 ACT public secondary students who received the first rollout of Chromebooks in 2018,” she said.
“This will ensure that their technology remains up to date and fit for purpose.”
Ms Berry said the Chromebooks provided students with greater flexibility over how, where and when they learned which was more important than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic continued.
“Students need to be empowered with the knowledge, skills and confidence to learn with digital tools at school, at home, at work and in their communities,” the Minister said.
She said ACT public schools also focused on educating students about online safety.
