The Health Directorate has marked the first birthday of its Check In CBR app with updates of COVID-19 exposure notification and the launch of a new ‘Check-in’ card for people without smartphones.
Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith said the Check In CBR update included a new location alert which provides users with direct notification if their check-in matches an exposure location.
“Consumers will be notified by SMS or push notifications, a message on the home screen of the app, and coloured identifiers displayed in the check-in history,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
“The check-in history will identify whether sites are close or casual contact so people can take appropriate action to quarantine and get a COVID-19 test or monitor for symptoms if they need to,” she said.
Ms Stephen-Smith said the new, free Check In CBR card would provide another option for Canberrans who did not have a smart phone, or were unable to download the app.
She said that while venues were able to check customers in through their business profile, it was not an ideal solution.
“Each Check In CBR card will have its own unique QR code and customers will simply present it to be scanned using the Check In CBR business profile,” she said.
“Check-in information collected this way will be stored directly with ACT Health in the same way as data collected through the app, making it even easier for people, businesses and contact tracers to play their part in our fight against the spread of COVID-19.”
Ms Stephen-Smith said the consumer’s name and phone number would also be recorded on the Check In CBR card as a backup option in case a business was not able to scan the QR code.
