The Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) has announced the COVID-SAfe Check-in app has recorded its 300 millionth check in, claiming it as an important milestone for the State.

The Department said the DPC ICT and Digital Government team developed the app while the Office for Data Analytics managed the data and provided it to SA Health when required.

The DPC said the app was a vital tool to identify and trace any known outbreak of COVID-19 in the community.

It said the app enabled contact tracers to rapidly perform risk assessments, identify and contact individuals within minutes.

The DPC said the 300 millionth check-in occurred at 5.35pm on Friday 6 August.

Chief Executive of the DPC, Nick Reade, said the app played a critical role in ensuring as little disruption as possible to South Australians during the global pandemic.

“The QR code system plays an important role in the easing of restrictions after an outbreak in our State, and all South Australians should be proud of their efforts in using the app as an everyday defence tool in the fight against COVID-19,” Mr Reade said.

“With the emergence of the highly transmissible Delta variant, the importance of checking in with the app is even more crucial,” he said.

Mr Reade said a new check-box feature had recently been introduced on the app to raise awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated.

He said, if checked, the one-time prompt sent an SMS with a link to the Commonwealth’s vaccination site once the check-in was completed.
