The annual launch of the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal brings together the movers and shakers of the community with always a smattering of energetic retirees with all the right contacts still happy to do their bit for the organisation at the forefront of providing for those in need.
Former Chief of Army, Peter Leahy as Chairman of the Red Shield Appeal garnered support again this year from a diverse range of business, NFP’s, community organisations and government who heard a heart wrenching story from Fatima who as a refugee found help with the Salvation Army but grieves for her three children still in a refugee camp in Guinea.
For shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen’s address in reply to the government’s Budget a jovial bunch of Labor MP’s and Senators came along for the Canberra lunch and thankfully no audio-visuals to try to figure nor slogans to annoy, but plenty of what we’ve heard already.
Now the pollies can get back to slipping into hi-vis clobber for media moments and lots of big machinery, annoying small children at kindy and popping up at small businesses with an entourage as well as reluctant press photographers looking for an unexpected photo-op worth the effort of a cold Canberra morning.
