Starting with a few rare changes in the PS News line-up this week with long-serving Wine and ‘Travel Good Buys’ writer John Rozentals (pictured) pulling out of the journalist team for a much-needed and well-deserved rest.
As well as starring in PS News, John has been a regular contributor to other well-known publications for many years including the Newcastle Herald, Illawarra Mercury, Border Mail, Daily Advertiser, Canberra Times and many more.
John’s inimitable skill of finding the finest Aussie wine for PS News readers will now be exercised by an equally fine wine finder, PS News’s own popular Doyen of the Dining room, Christine Salins, whose after-work dinner recipes for busy PS staffers have proven a roaring success for hundreds of families in the past 10 years and longer.
And while it’s a sad goodbye to John’s ‘Travel Good Buys’, PS News’s proven popular visit to days gone by that have charmed PS-sssst! pages in recent weeks ‘PS of the PaSt’ has been promoted to its own webpage at this temporary address.
While PS News will miss the brilliance of John but wallow in Christine’s wine, the promotion of the historical Archive of PS News 10 years ago is sure to make the shuffle well worth the change.
And as has been the PS News policy for the past 16 years, if you don’t like it, just let us know.
PS News has always – and will always – belong to its readers and whether you like it or not, you’re one of them!

Shakespearean Space
An out-of-this-world thankyou to sharp-eyed Ross J from NSW Transport now for directing
PS-ssssst! to the new space agency taking off in Western Australia and starting its adventure by officially opening an office in Perth.
To be known as the Australian Remote Operations for Space and Earth, the new agency caught Ross’s attention, prompting him to point out that its acronym was quite a good one.
“AROSE is the new agency’s acronym,” declared Ross, “they Arose from the earth into space, so most appropriate for this organisation!”
Congratulations Ross, expect a PS-sssst! Pack for your trouble although PS-sssst! sniffs an acronymical hint of the great Shakespeare at work in the title, 400 years ahead of time predicting Romeo’s Juliet would declare ‘AROSE by any other name would smell as sweet’.
How aromatically romantic!
Heads and funny tales
To the ACT now where the old saying; ‘If you want something done properly you do it yourself” – has hit home in a big way.
During the week the ACT Government announced the establishment a new advisory council to help manage gambling in the capital.
With a long-standing policy of trying to limit the damage uncontrolled gambling might do to some people in the community, the new ACT Community Clubs Ministerial Advisory Council has been set up to advise the Territory’s Minister for Gaming on how to introduce harm reduction initiatives while keeping the city’s clubs viable enough to carry out their valuable community work.
And just in case the members of the Council have any doubt their recommendations will reach the Minister, the Minister has appointed himself Chair of the Council!
What are the odds of that?
And as if to admit the ACT Government struggles with the concept of what a ‘club’ might be, the Minister went on the record to say “We want to ensure clubs continue to support the community …..”
Someone should tell him that clubs are there to support their members, not the community – that’s his job!
What are the odds on that that no-one will!
Step up to win!

Riddled!
And finally a heart-warming reminder that Australia’s public services around the country are home to many highly talented, happy, smart and hard workers, a perfect example of whom is the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness and Housing’s Philomena S, whose contribution and commitment to PS-sssst! comedy comes at the very highest level of comicality.
And so it is that PS-sssst! shares Philomena’s latest masterpiece of wise wisdom for our wit and whimsy:
“Whoever invented the ‘knock knock’ riddles” Philomena proposes, “Should receive a ‘no bell’ prize”.
Ka Boom!
Till next week……..
