Country Fire Authority (CFA) brigades across Victoria opened their hearts for the Good Friday Appeal this year, raising $198,259 through their Virtual Tin Shake website.
Chief Executive and Chief Officer of the CFA, Steve Warrington said more than 200 CFA brigades registered their support in lieu of traditional fundraising events, which could not go ahead due to COVID-19 physical distancing restrictions.
“Members of the community showed their unmatched generosity during this tough time, making more than 4,400 donations to the virtual brigade funds,” Mr Warrington said.
“This year has been like no other,” he said.
“Brigades have had to adapt to fundraising virtually and I would like to thank each and every CFA member who has supported the appeal throughout these unprecedented times.
“Thank you to all Victorians that have got behind their local CFA brigade to donate, another amazing year of fundraising.”
Mr Warrington said the Appeal had raised $8.4 million before the Victorian Government announced it would pitch in to help match last year’s tally, bringing the final total to $18.2 million.
He said funds the raised go to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
“Over many years of support, CFA members have raised more than $34 million for the Good Friday Appeal to help the Royal Children’s Hospital provide world-class care to our kids,” Mr Warrington said.
