The final review of the WA Police Force’s actions in response to concerns raised over the quality of its prosecutions has been tabled in Parliament by the Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC).
In a statement, the CCC said concerns were initially raised in its report of November 2018.
“The report detailed an Internal Affairs Unit investigation into an arrest incident at Hamilton Hill in December 2016 after the magistrate found the officers’ evidence was an attempt to mislead the court,” the Commission said.
The CCC said in response to that report the WA Police Force had acknowledged the concerns raised were not unique and had implemented an organisational restructure to improve the delivery of consistent and accountable services.
“It established a Capability and Coordination portfolio and a Standards and Practices Division, responsible for guidance and instruction on investigative processes, and began a review into prosecuting services in December 2019 to identify ways to improve police prosecuting services and outcomes,” the CCC said.
“This report outlines the actions taken by the WA Police Force to better identify, comprehend and respond to concerns associated with investigation and prosecution standards.”
The CCC said it considered the WA Police Force was taking appropriate steps and therefore its review was complete.
