artsACT has launched a webpage to help Canberrans buy local, support ACT artists, and give one-of-a-kind gifts this holiday season.

Minister for the Arts, Tara Cheyne said that with the new resource supporting local artists had never been easier.

“Giving someone a uniquely Canberra gift this holiday season has never been easier, with so many amazing local artists and makers throughout the Canberra region offering unique gifts both online and in store,” Ms Cheyne said.

“With this resource, supporting our local artists is simple, there are a range of options allowing you to buy from an art gallery, a local shop or directly from the artists themselves,” she said.

“From clothing with prints inspired by local landmarks designed by Zilpah Tart, to furniture built with recycled Australian timber crafted by the team at Thor’s Hammer, Canberra’s bustling artists and makers have something to suit everybody.”

Ms Cheyne said buying from Canberra’s artists was a great way to boost the local the arts community and ensured money went toward supporting local jobs.

“Shopping local and supporting local artists and arts organisation really can have a big impact this Christmas,” the Minister said.

“Other ideas might be to purchase a membership to a local arts organisation or, if you’re the kind of person who likes making their own gift, attend a workshop and learn how to make something yourself,” she said
