Staff members from Canberra Health Services have been honoured for their innovation and commitment at the 2019 Quality in Healthcare Awards.

Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith said the winners for 2019 were an example of the experienced, professional and caring health professionals working in the Territory’s public health system providing quality health care to Canberrans.

“These awards highlight how the patient is at the forefront of the minds of clinical and health sector staff,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.

“Each project aims to create a safer, more comfortable environment for the patient.”

She said Canberra’s public health system was backed by health professionals determined to find better, smarter and more efficient ways to create a high-quality health care system.

“These awards acknowledge that dedication,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.

“Congratulations to all the finalists and thank you all for the work you do to enhance patient-centred health care in the ACT.”

She said the 2019 Quality in Healthcare Awards acknowledged the contribution of teams and individuals to deliver safe, effective and “person-centred” health care across the ACT.

“I would especially like to congratulate the Quality Improvement team from Canberra Health Services and the University of Canberra, who took out the top prize for their work on hospital-acquired infections,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
