Canberra-based defence technology company Kord Group has announced it has been awarded a contract to provide its remote technology to the US Army.
The contract is valued at US$7m (A$11m) and will see Kord’s Rifle Accessory Control Unit (RACU) System Technology supplied to the US Army via prime contractor Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) for evaluation under an engineering, development, integration, and technology-based solutions program.
The RACU is designed to provide soldiers with a centralised point of control for all their weapon-mounted and body-worn electronic devices, with the goal of significantly enhancing soldier performance, lethality and situational awareness.
“Think of it as a simple, common remote for the soldier, which gives them quick, easy and intuitive control,” Kord Group Managing Director Dr Peter Moran said.
“It’s a force multiplier, simple to learn, and rugged. It allows soldiers to keep heads up, eyes on target and hands on weapon.”
The technology has been developed and tested over many years by the Australian Army and US Marine Corps and advances critical defense goals under the AUKUS agreement.
The controller has been integrated with more than 40 types of soldier ancillaries and attaches to a quad rail or similar system.
“This is more than just about securing a technology contract,” Dr Moran said.
“It’s a wonderful example of the collaboration between Australia and the US across militaries, innovation and industry for the benefit of both countries. We’re proud to advance our AUKUS agreement goals and continue to strengthen the relationship between our two countries.”
Through its Australian and US companies, Kord has a long-standing relationship with the United States Congress and Defense Department, with support for rapid procurement through the US National Defense Authorization Act 2019-2023.
