Bus passengers in Canberra can expect more choice when the Transport Network update comes into effect on 18 July.
Announced by the Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate, the update addresses community feedback and makes it easier for Canberrans to avoid peak times and spread travel across the day.
“The Network 19 update was originally due to be implemented on 28 April 2020 but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Directorate said.
“The updated network will provide 692 extra bus services each weekday – a 17.5 per cent increase,” it said.
“[They] bring more direct routes, more frequent services and significant improvements across the network for all Canberrans.”
The Directorate said it would implement an improved bus system with more services on key routes to help avoid crowding as people gradually returned to work during Phase Three of the pandemic recovery.
“The ACT Government’s advice still remains the same about public transport, which is to avoid travel in peak times,” it said.
“However, implementing the Network 19 update will assist in supporting those who need to use public transport,” the Directorate said.
