The Queensland Government has announced that the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is coming to Brisbane for the first time in 2026.
On 12 and 14 February, Suncorp Stadium will host a full-scale production of the tattoo’s 75th anniversary show, ”The Heroes Who Made Us”. The spectacle will feature more than 1000 artists as well as uniformed men and women of the British Armed Forces, the Commonwealth and international military bands.
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a massive military and cultural event that represents the common heritage of many Australians who have a connection to the British Isles. It also celebrates Australia’s links with other Commonwealth nations.
The Queensland Government expects the international event to deliver $39 million to the state’s economy.
“The tattoo is one of the world’s most spectacular outdoor events, so attracting it to Queensland for the first time is no small feat,” Premier David Crisafulli said.
“From bagpipes to bugles, Queenslanders will be able to experience the best military performances from across the globe.
“Hosting the tattoo means the eyes of the world will be fixated on our incredible state, and Queensland is looking forward to putting on a show like no other.”
Steeped in centuries of tradition, the tattoo features huge groups of pipers and drummers, Highland dancers and the spectacle of military marching.
Since 1950, the event has only visited Australia four times, in Sydney and Melbourne.
Tourism remains a massive part of Queensland’s economy and the tattoo, combined with the Olympics in 2032, makes Brisbane a major attraction on the international events calendar.
“The tattoo will be a huge drawcard for Queenslanders and interstate guests alike, all of whom want to see a piece of history and have a world-class experience,” Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said.
“Bringing an event of this magnitude to Queensland provides amazing economic opportunities, which flow across the hospitality industry, small businesses, and retailers.
“Hosting the tattoo reinforces Brisbane’s reputation as one of the world’s leading tourism destinations.”
