ACT Health’s mass vaccination clinics are now taking COVID-19 vaccine booster bookings for 16 and 17 year olds.

Announced by Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith, the opening of appointments to the age group follows advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.

Ms Stephen-Smith said anyone aged 16 and over who was eligible should get their booster as soon as possible.

“Getting your COVID-19 booster is one of the best things you can do to protect yourself, your family and the community from COVID-19,” she said.

“We know that the booster further reduces your chances of severe illness, while also reducing the likelihood of you catching and passing on the highly infectious Omicron variant.

“I encourage those who are eligible to make a booster booking at either an ACT Government clinic or with a GP or pharmacist as soon as you can.”

The Minister said Canberrans who had had COVID-19 should still get a booster to give them the best protection against further infections.

“Talk to a GP or health care provider after you have recovered from COVID-19 for advice on the best timing for vaccination,” she said.

Ms Stephen-Smith said bookings for boosters at Government clinics could be made online through MyDHR or by phoning the ACT’s COVID-19 vaccination booking line on (02) 5124 7700 between 7am and 7pm seven days a week.
