Applications are now open for a training course to prepare women across the ACT to serve on Government or private boards.
Minister for Women, Yvette Berry said there had been a great response from trainees in the initial Audrey Fagan Board Traineeship Program last year.
She said the program provided an opportunity for women in the ACT to gain skills and capabilities to participate on boards within the Territory.
“It combines a series of workshops on the fundamentals of board membership, and an associated mentoring program,” Ms Berry said.
“Each trainee is paired with a mentor who is an existing member of a board and also has the opportunity to be a non-participant observer in board meetings.”
She said boards and committees also benefited from increased diversity, fresh ideas and innovation, and the chance to provide a valuable opportunity to a member of the community.
“The 2019 program will continue to support the Government’s commitments of 50 per cent female representation on Government boards and committees; and 40 per cent female representation on Government-funded sporting organisation boards by 2020,” Ms Berry said.
Applications for trainees and expressions of interest for mentors and boards will close on 3 April.
