WA Police is warning road users that the educational year has begun and they now have to slow down around schools.
Road Safety Commissioner, Adrian Warner said police were now patrolling to ensure drivers were doing the right thing with 40km/h school zone speed limits back in force across the entire State.
“Going back to school is an exciting time for lots of students, but this can lead to risky lapses in concentration, particularly around roads,” Commissioner Warner said.
“Its important parents take the time to have a road safety conversation with their children.”
He said parents were reminded to refresh their child’s memory on how to cross the road safely; advise the child on how to look out for moving vehicles; and ensure children used the appropriate protective gear if they were riding or scooting to school.
“School drop off and pick up is a very busy time and drivers need to be cautious and vigilant on local roads and in school zones, particularly during those times,” Commissioner Warner said.
“As a reminder — let’s be patient and courteous to each other — it’s more important to save a life than save time.”
Commissioner Warner was accompanied by Minister for Road Safety, Michelle Roberts and Police Commissioner, Chris Dawson.
