The Department of Environment and Science has said the David Fleay Wildlife Park and Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre are geared up to present an opportunity for families to get close to nature over the Easter holiday.
Director of Gateway Visitor Centres at the Department, Steve Briant said the school holiday programs offered at both centres were packed with exciting activities for children of all ages and their families.
“Children will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of conservation, explore the natural environment and get up close to some of Australia’s most iconic wildlife,” Mr Briant said.
“There are a range of outdoor and indoor activities available, including animal encounters, interactive displays and the popular Junior Ranger program.”
He said that at the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre at The Gap on Brisbane’s north-side, families could enjoy Nature at Night, where they would be able to see and learn about some of the State’s unique nocturnal wildlife while enjoying dinner on the deck.
“Visitors will also be able to gaze at the stars through a large telescope,” Mr Briant said.
“These holidays, our Junior Rangers will learn all about threatened frog species and work alongside our Walkabout Creek rangers to build their own frog hotel to take home as they become wildlife champions.”
He said that on David Fleay Wildlife Park, located at West Burleigh on the Gold Coast, families could enjoy a VIP ranger tour around the park to learn about threatened species including koalas, bilbies, Lumholtz’s tree kangaroo, Bridled nailtail wallaby and many more.
