Canberrans can now help the outstanding nurses and midwives who have treated them to gain recognition for their work, with the announcement of a new award.
Inviting nominations, Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith said a new consumer recognition category had been added to the annual ACT Nurses and Midwives Excellence Awards.
“Many of us have had more frequent interactions with the health service in the past couple of years,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
“As a result, we’ve more often experienced the kindness, patience and professionalism of Canberra’s nurses and midwives,” she said.
“The new category enables members of the public to nominate a nurse or midwife working in a public or private hospital, aged care or other health service in the ACT for outstanding service.”
Ms Stephen-Smith said the Excellence Awards had traditionally been an opportunity for health service professionals to acknowledge and celebrate the efforts of their colleagues.
“However, due to the outstanding feedback we have increasingly been receiving from the community about health care workers in the ACT, we are now inviting current or past patients and their families or carers to nominate,” she said.
The Minister said nominations for the new Award category were open until 13 March and the winner would be announced, along with the five other winners of the ACT Nurses and Midwives Excellence Awards categories, during International Nursing and Midwifery Week in May.
