The Community Services Directorate has opened nominations for the ACT’s 2018 Violence Prevention Awards.

Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, Yvette Berry said the annual awards recognised projects and activities, or individuals, who were making significant contributions to the prevention of violence against women and children in the ACT.

Ms Berry said she hoped the awards would promote examples of exemplary work being done in the community.

“It is important that nominations are received about innovative partnerships between individuals or organisations in the ACT so that the Government can acknowledge their contribution towards creating a community where women and children can live free from fear and violence,” Ms Berry said.

She said there were six categories of awards: Private sector, Sport, Workplace, Media, Community/not for profit, and Health and/or education.

“Last year’s awards acknowledged a bunch of great contributors including the Fearless Comedy Gala (pictured) which uses the power of comedy to highlight the issue of intimate partner, domestic and family violence,” Ms Berry said.

“Amongst the recipients was also Assistance Beyond Crisis who developed, funded and organised a program to offer loans to people who have experienced violence in the community and need help to stay safe, in housing or to help with other debt.”

Nominations close on 15 October and more information, including details on how to make a submission are available at this PS News link.
