Autumn leaves add colour to the city

City Services has alerted Canberra’s tree-loving photographers to the colourful change of season, urging them to seek out the best spots to take the perfect snap of the city’s autumn leaves.

The office has even launched an interactive map to help the tree-lovers track down the leaves.

It invited people to contribute to the map by submitting their own photos of fantastic autumn streetscapes.

“In autumn Canberra’s deciduous trees transform our city into a tapestry of colour as their leaves change to display vivid reds, purples, oranges and yellows,” City Services said.

“This interactive map will guide you to some of Canberra’s most striking autumnal displays,” it said.

Our CBR said people could find beautiful oak trees and poplars, showcasing a spectacular tapestry of colour, at Lake Burley Griffin.

It also recommended the suburbs in Canberra’s inner north and inner south; Grant Crescent and Flinders Way in Griffith; and the National Arboretum.

“The older inner north and inner south suburbs offer stunning boulevards and streets lined with a kaleidoscope of autumn colours,” Our CBR said.

“Yarralumla and Deakin in the south and Ainslie and O’Connor in the north have some of Canberra’s best streets for vivid autumnal displays,” it said.

Our CBR recommended people have their cameras ready when wandering through Griffith, “the perfect neighbourhood for autumn foliage”.

It said Griffith’s American elm trees had also transformed to a display of vivid reds, oranges and yellows.
