Australia Post has launched an Australia-first Technology Academy offering a two-year development program to anyone with an interest in a career in the tech sector.

Aimed at training emerging talent from diverse backgrounds, including return-to-work parents and people with non-technical skills, the project is a partnership between Australia Post and educator Coder Academy.

Australia Post said the Academy would provide 20 successful applicants with training on the job and placements within Australia Post’s technical and digital spaces.

It said that beginning in February 2019, trainees would receive a 12-week technology “boot camp”, a two-week placement across Australia Post’s retail and operations sectors, and four five-month technology rotations.

It said there will also be opportunities for continuing employment within a technological or digital team at the end of the two-year period.

Chief Information Officer at Australia Post, John Cox said the program would nurture new talent and enable people to build their skills across emerging technologies.

“We’re proud the Australia Post Technology Academy is the first of its kind in the country,” Mr Cox said.

“We know the technology industry is continuously growing and demand for talent is increasing.”

He said meeting employment shortages within the sector has become increasingly challenging and Australia Post was looking to grow its technological and digital capabilities by developing talent in emerging technologies such as machine learning, the Internet of Things and blockchain.

Applications for the Australia Post Technology Academy close on 2 September and more information, including application documents can be accessed at this PS News link.
