The Victorian Auditor-General has released his Annual Plan for 2023–24 setting out programs of annual planning, performance engagements and a financial audit work program.
The Auditor-General, Andrew Greaves identifies Education, Environment, Health and Human Services, Infrastructure, Transport and Planning, Justice and Community Safety as well as local Government in his ‘performance engagement’.
In his annual plan, Mr Greaves said the office’s annual work program would be made up of performance audits and limited assurance reviews as well as financial audits.
“We report on the results of these engagements to Parliament,” the Auditor-General said.
“Our work program helps Parliament hold the Government accountable (and) the public sector improve its performance.
For performance audits Mr Greaves said his office’s engagements assessed if Government Agencies, programs and services were effectively meeting their objectives, using resources economically and efficiently and complying with legislation.
With respect to the 2023-24 work program, the Auditor-General said its performance audit work program sets out performance engagements he expected it would complete over the next financial year.
“It informs Parliament, the public sector and the community about our goals and priorities for the year ahead,” he said.
“In 2023–24 we will conduct the following engagements:
* Audit opinions on public sector entities’ financial reports and performance reports;
* An audit opinion on the Annual Financial Report of the State of Victoria (AFR);
* A report to Parliament on our audit of the AFR;
* A limited assurance review on the general government sector’s estimated financial reports;
* Sector-based reports to Parliament on the results of our financial audits; and
*Other assurance activities, such as audit opinions on agencies’ grant acquittals and controls reports.
