The Victorian Auditor-General, Andrew Greaves has released the annual plan for the Victorian Auditor-General’s Office (VAGO) in the coming financial year, 2021-22.
Mr Greaves said his Office’s performance audits assessed whether Government Agencies, programs and services were effectively meeting their objectives, using resources economically and efficiently, and complying with legislation.
“We use a rolling three-year planning cycle to develop our performance engagement work program,” Mr Greaves said.
“This forecast horizon informs Parliament, the public sector and the Victorian community about our short and medium-term goals and priorities,” he said.
“It also provides us with opportunities to undertake early consultation with our stakeholders and allows audited agencies to make necessary preparations for scheduled audits well in advance.”
Mr Greaves said areas to audit had been decided on by anticipating and responding to current and emerging risks and challenges in the Victorian public sector.
The Auditor-General said business continuity during COVID-19 would be examined across Central Agencies and whole-of-Government with audits proposed for Cenitex; the Department of Education and Training (DET); the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP); the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH); the Department of Health (DH); the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS); the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions (DJPR); the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS); the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC); the Department of Transport (DoT); and the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF).
He said further audits of DET were also proposed for this financial year to examine the effectiveness of the Navigator program; information and communication technology (ICT) provisioning in schools; and supporting workers in transitioning industries.
