The Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) has announced The West Australian Pulse 2023, inviting the State’s talented young artists to unleash their creativity.
Director of the AGWA, Colin Walker said the Pulse program would be an avant-garde youth festival, providing a platform to showcase the State’s young talent across all creative forms.
“As well as celebrating young artists through the highly popular exhibition, The West Australian Pulse, the program will extend across all forms of art and culture, including music, design, fashion, writing and performing arts,” Mr Walker said.
“As the AGWA takes on an advocacy role to champion creative industry career pathways for young and aspiring creatives, it reminds us all of the urgent need to nurture arts and creativity in our society.”
He said that alongside The West Australian Pulse exhibition would be a range of events and activities involving youth forums and workshops, music showcases, a creative mentoring program, and retail design opportunities in the AGWA Design Store.
“The West Australian Pulse is an incredible opportunity to display the work of our talented young artists. We see this year as an occasion to celebrate youth creativity and the importance of championing creative skills for students and young people,” Mr Walker said.
“This year’s program allows us to bring creative industries together and illustrate the enormous impact of the arts on our community.”
The Pulse Program will begin with the annual exhibition, The West Australian Pulse opening to the public on 28 April.
This will be followed by a music-led May with a series of youth music performances and a suite of youth forums and workshops across June, July and August.
A highlight will be the keynote address by futurist, Anders Sorman-Nilsson on Exploring Creatives Future — and what the world looks like if it does not support creative industries.
