State Archives and Records is calling on the public to help choose which School Administrative Files should be digitised.
The Archives said that as part of its digitisation program it is to digitise select School Administrative Files from 1876-1939.
“Please look at the list to identify a School File held as part of the State Archives Collection and then cast your vote,” the Archives said.
“Using your votes we will then select the most popular files for digitisation, subject to a conservation assessment and publish these online,” it said.
State Archives and Records said a School File was a valuable source for all types of historical research, particularly local history.
It said information in a School File included applications for the establishment of schools; the school’s progress and events; teachers; and letters which dealt with varying aspects of the school’s operations.
“Application forms contain details of prospective pupils, together with information relating to the proposed site and building,” it said.
“Letters and memoranda deal with changes in the schools status, closures and re-openings, and the adequacy of the site and buildings (ranging from routine repairs to new buildings).”
The Office said voting lines were open until Monday (12 April).
State Archives and Records’ 244-page list of School Files up for digitisation can be accessed at this PS News link and people can submit their votes at this link.
