Cuts to red tape across the Australian Public Service have saved the Australian community almost $6 billion since 2013 according to the Minister for Deregulation, Craig Laundy.
Releasing the Department of Jobs and Small Business’s Annual Regulatory Reform Report: 1 January 2016-30 June 2017, Mr Laundy said the cuts made it easier for individuals, businesses and community organisations to comply with Regulations.
He said that between January 2016 and June 2017 decisions were made that reduced the regulatory burden on businesses “by more than $800 million a year”.
He said the biggest single saving was the abolition of the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal which was worth $444 million.
Mr Laundy said the Government was committed to ensuring the regulatory environment made life easier for businesses and households, encouraging growth and innovation in the economy.
“This has played a big part in our record of creating more than a million new jobs since 2013,” Mr Laundy said.
“We are not finished yet.”
He said other initiatives underway included the National Business Simplification Initiative which would deliver real savings for businesses through simpler regulation and digitalisation of Government services, allowing them to focus more on growing their business and less on regulatory compliance.
“The Government will continue its focus on cutting red tape, improving regulatory performance and ensuring regulations are fit-for-purpose,” Mr Laundy said.
