The Australian National University (ANU) has launched a new admissions scheme to attract applications from students around the nation for courses in 2020.
By opening the application process this month, ANU expects to start making offers in August for students beginning their tertiary studies in 2020.
Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the ANU, Grady Venville said the main pillars of the revised admissions scheme were prioritising places for students from regional, remote, Indigenous or low socio-economic backgrounds and assessing a student’s commitment to their family, school or community as well as their academic ability.
Professor Venville said an ANU student was more than their ATAR score.
“Our aim is to have our student community reflect the Australian community,” Professor Venville said.
“This means making an ANU education more accessible and attainable to students from all over the country with the will and ability to succeed.”
She said the new admissions platform made applying for course admission, accommodation and scholarships much easier for students.
“In August, students will receive a packaged offer with details of any financial support they have received and campus accommodation.”
She said applications to ANU were now simpler than they had ever been.
“We have developed an approach to admission that maintains the highest possible academic standards while making the transition to university more welcoming, merit-based and transparent,” Professor Venville said.
The new admissions platform is available to domestic undergraduate school leavers.
